intervals Intervals: The BEST Project Management Software AvailableI’ll say right up front that this is not a review; this is an (unpaid, unrequested, unaffiliated) endorsement. The company did not approach me about writing this post, nor do they even know I’m writing it, but when I encounter such a phenomenal tool for small businesses, I want to share it. So here it is!

Earlier this year, it started as a search for a Google Notebook replacement and quickly expanded into a project management app search. I really needed an all-in-one task management, project management, and collaboration tool. And I tested just about everything out there, and every single tool I tried failed to meet my needs in some way.

Then I found Intervals. It’s been about six months since I’ve started using it, and I have found it to be an amazing tool. Here’s what I love about Intervals and why you should give it a try if you’re looking for a powerful project management tool.

Task Management

I’m a list-maker and desperately needed a way to track work and personal tasks in a way that made sense. Intervals lets you create tasks per specific project, upload documents and track versions, create notes and comments, set due dates, and assign tasks to others. You can even prioritize and schedule daily e-mail task reminders so nothing falls through the cracks.

Multiple Users

I have subcontractors and others (i.e. my husband) who need to see and access certain tasks and projects. But I don’t necessarily want everyone to see everything in my account. Intervals lets you create users with varying permissions so you can control what they can access. It’s also a great way to track time subcontractors spend on each task (users can track their time right in Intervals or input it separately).

Projects

Being able to sort tasks by client and project is invaluable. When you have many initiatives going on at the same time, the last thing you want is a monster list of to-do’s with no clear organization. Being able to sort by project allows you to remove some of the noise and focus on one thing at a time.

Reports

You can produce a lot of reports…one of my biggest uses of this function is generating the weekly time reports for my clients. All of the tracking and project management is done in one place, so creating weekly reports is as simple as a few clicks. If you are consistent with tracking both billable and unbillable time, you can also get a great idea of where you need to focus in order to improve your productivity.

Flexibility

While Intervals provides some set functions and uses, it’s also developed so you can morph it into what works best for your business. There is a lot of room for customization, which can be hard to find in many of these tools. And they are consistently improving, developing and taking suggestions from users to make the app better than it is today. Can’t beat that!

Security

Intervals offers plans that provide SSL 256-bit encryption. This is vital for anyone working with client information and anything else you may want to ensure is protected.

And that’s why I love Intervals. What about you? Have you ever tried Intervals? What do you use for managing your projects?
