blackberry business apps 18+ BlackBerry Apps that Make Me a Productivity Super PowerIn case you missed my post earlier this week, I publicly proclaimed my renewed love and appreciation for my BlackBerry Bold 9700. To follow up on that post, I thought it might be useful to share some the apps I use to stay productive, even when I’m not sitting at my computer.

1. Amazon Kindle

I was more than happy when Amazon rolled out their Kindle for Blackberry app…ecstatic really. I can keep up with my backlog of business books on my Kindle, and have instant access on rare occasions when I have an opportunity to read for fun.

2. BlackBerry App World

This BB app store is a must-have for downloading apps. I also have MobiHand Superstore and Handango InHand for quickly locating and downloading. Also very useful to have all three in case you need to reinstall an app you purchased.

3. Dictionary.com

Instant access to a dictionary and thesaurus — invaluable when I’m in writing mode.

4. Documents To Go

I use Documents To Go, particularly Word To Go, on a daily basis. I can write, edit, review, etc. with all of the needed conveniences — spellcheck, word count, formatting tools and even commenting.

5. Evernote

I recently wrote a post on SitePoint.com on how I use Evernote to manage ideas. I like Evernote, but I’m not a huge fan of the mobile app. However, it does give me access to my notes when I need it.

6. Facebook

Being able to update my status, make connections, send and receive messages, read and comment, etc. is very useful (I wouldn’t recommend integrating it with your BB email inbox, though. If you do, you will no longer get separate email notifications of FB activity).

7. FileScout

A simple app for navigating the files on your BB. I use this a lot with my SD Card (which I obviously need with all of these apps!).

8. Gmail

I think I’m one of the few people that does not use Gmail on a regular basis, but I certainly know how useful it can be. I have it on my BB so I can access my email archive.

9. LinkedIn

This just came out, so I have barely even begun using it. It seems a little limited right now, but it’s a keeper for the simple fact that it allows me to stay connected easily.

10. MiniChimp

The mobile version of MailChimp that lets me review campaign stats.

11. PayPal

It provides limited access to your PayPal account, but you can check your balance and send money through the app.

12. Random Password Generator

This is a convenience app for me…I hate making passwords and having handheld access to a tool that will do it for me (with the number of digits and symbols that I want) saves me time from having to go through my web browser.

13. SugarSync

This provides mobile access to your backed up data if you use SugarSync. I use this a lot to access files on my Mac and my PC (and then sync them) directly from my BB.

14. UberTwitter

I’ve tried several Twitter clients on my BB, and I can honestly say nothing else even comes close to UberTwitter. I can view tweets, replies, DMs, search, watch trending topics, change my bio, and even access my lists. A must-have if you’re on Twitter.

15. Unread

It was just a couple of weeks ago that I found this brand new app for Google Reader users. If you’ve ever used the mobile Reader access to keep up with your feeds, you know how cumbersome and slow it could be. This is the first native Google Reader client for the BlackBerry that syncs with Google and makes reading feeds much more user-friendly.

16. Wifi File Transfer

Because I use a Mac as my primary computer, and RIM and Apple do not do a good job of getting along, I have always struggled with syncing files. This handy little app lets me connect right to my BB from my Mac or PC and grab what I need.

17. WordPress

Great for writing posts, uploading photos and managing comments. It even lets you set up access to multiple blogs.

18. YouMail Visual Voicemail Plus

I have frequently lost messages or forgotten about calls I’ve received on my BB once they disappear from my list and the new message notification goes away. Because I use my BB as my landline, this can be a bad thing. YouMail routes calls through their service, then sends me call info and voicemail messages by email, text or both. So now I have a backup email that reminds me later that I need to return a call.

Oh, and I used SnapScreen to take the screenshot at the top of the post. Being able to capture my BB screen has come in handy a few times.

I’m still on the lookout for a graphics editor that will let me resize and crop images, an FTP app (still testing out a few), and I would be elevated to Super-Crazy Productive status if there was a BlackBerry app for Intervals (my project management software). But all-in-all, I can be pretty productive through my BlackBerry when I need to be.
