Cool Tool: automilez
I don’t travel a lot for business, but I do travel quite a bit taking my son to see specialists in Philadelphia. I know we need to keep track of our mileage for tax purposes, but it’s really just annoying, especially when you’re juggling a 6-month-old (and sometimes a two-year-old and three-year-old, too!).
I recently found automilez and think it has the potential to save me time and a huge headache. Maybe it will help you out, too.
Automilez is a web-based app that lets you store trips and access the data later on. It includes a dashboard charting of realtime/YTD deduction and mileage breakdowns, visual indicators flagging missing details for IRS substantiation, weekly status emails of alerts and accumulated log details and of course, the benefits of not having to worry about losing or misplacing logs.
They recently launched an iPhone app that uses a combination of smartphone GPS, wi-fi and cell tower triangulation to immediately track and log trip mileage. Cool, huh? According to their website, apps for Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and Palm are coming soon. I know I’ll be adding it to my list of must-have BlackBerry apps…
