Big Huge Thesaurus is a search engine for word-based inspiration. Here is how you can use the site:
- As a traditional thesaurus + more. Go to http://words.bighugelabs.com, enter in your word and you’ll be presented with a list of synonyms, antonyms, words it sounds like and words it rhymes with (all linked to their own thesaurus pages).
- As a blog post idea generator. Go to http://words.bighugelabs.com/blog.php and scroll through hundreds of blog post ideas to get some of your own. You can also submit your own ideas to be included on the list.
- As a story plot generator. Similar to the blog post idea tool, go to http://words.bighugelabs.com/plot.php for a long list of story plot ideas.
The site is based on source data from the Princeton University WordNet database, the Carnegie Mellon Pronouncing Dictionary, and suggestions from thousands of people who use the service. And it has the power to nip writer’s block in the bud.
